100 Things to Know About Architecture by Louise O'Brien (goodreads.com)

“As elsewhere in this series, here we have a hundred 100-word micro-essays about different aspects of architecture. This is a blend of terms, the architects themselves, different kinds of creation (stadium, bridge, etc) and – since this is 2022 and not, say, 2012 – a lot of concerns that have come on board in more recent years, such as sustainability, what to do with the building's fabric when it's been finished with, etc. Many are the places, it seems, making themselves known with a wondrous construction based on this or that aspect of the real world, which aims to make the building less environmentally blame-worthy; but not all the places that need to have of course jumped on that bandwagon. This is successful at showing all the aspects of architecture that the practitioners have to think of – such as the surrounding landscape, the building's use, the efficiency of it all, and so much more. I can't see it as a book that rushes off a school library's shelves every week of every term, but the place would be poorer for not having something like this colourful, informative guide. (less)

Illustrated by Dàlia Adillon, her wonderful sensibility and artistry brings the architecture to life.

Architecture is all around us, and it’s a record of humankind’s endeavour through the centuries. It’s also one of the marks we’ve made on this fragile planet.

Understanding architecture better helps us understand ourselves, our shared history, and how we can connect with others.

Through architecture, creative thinkers can design environments that contribute to a more sustainable, equitable, inclusive, and healthy world.

The book couldn't be more charming and I think it’s a celebration of Architecture and humankind at its best.

Adults will love the book I'm sure. Look out for it as it's going to turn a lot of my readers into built environment professionals!!
